I’m always looking for more ways to be a positive mom. I want my kids to be happy and positive too!
I believe that having a positive mindset can lead to a healthier, happier life.
It’s so easy to get brought down by negativity from people, news, opinions…anything in today’s world.
It takes a huge personal effort to be positive. It doesn’t just happen. It’s an attitude and you are in charge of it.
Our kids watch and listen to every move we make. They copy us. I want my daughters to watch me be positive and happy, and then for them to live a positive, happy life growing up and to keep their positive attitudes into their adult life.
Positive mom = positive family = happiness!
5 Ways to Be a Positive Mom
1. Surround Yourself With Positive People
Attitudes and moods are very contagious. Think about it, would you rather be around someone who is laughing, or someone who is screaming in rage? I would definitely rather be by the person who is laughing, because it would make me happy.
If there is someone in your life who only has negative attitudes, take some time away from them and you might find yourself feeling more positive.
2. Stay Away From Negative Media
This is the same as being around influential negative people. Television shows, games, music, news casts, inappropriate comic books, or movies can all affect your mood and outlook on life.
Try to only take in positive or happy media sources. If you know there is going to be bad news on your evening news, don’t watch it. Opt for a comical family show that will bring laughter. Stay away from dark depressing music and opt for upbeat, bright music.
3. Create Your Own Happiness
Even if you can’t find happiness or feel like you don’t have a lot of happiness in your life, that doesn’t mean you can’t make happiness.
If you are feeling down, think of something positive and happy on purpose. You are in charge of your happiness, so why not create more?
A few easy ways to be happier are going outside for a walk, listening to music, watching your favorite funny tv show, or doing a hobby that will lift your mood.
4. Say Nice Things
Praise and compliment your children and husband and you will more than likely receive it back. Use your manners. Tell your family how much you love them. Avoid complaining and making excuses.
Stop saying negative words such as “can’t”, “hate”, “stupid”, or “gross”. Instead, purposely incorporate more positive words into your everyday conversations. Try using: “wonderful”, “favorite”, “exciting”, or “awesome!”.
Smiles and laughter are so contagious! It is a proven fact that even if you are in a bad mood, smiling can increase happiness.
Even forcing yourself to smile or laugh will lead to a positive mood. If you aren’t smiling and happy, more than likely you will be feeling a more negative attitude. Turn that frown upside down!
